Auctions vs lotteries

By Lilou Fructuoso

In recent times, a trend has emerged on the auction scene: artists' clothing.

It's much more than a simple auction — it's a meeting point between fashion, music, and solidarity. Several auctions stand out for their charitable intent. Among them, a collector's piece and emblem: the leather jacket worn by Vincent Cassel in the cult film "La Haine" by Mathieu Kassovitz. During his portrayal of Vinz in 1995, Cassel donated this garment to two charitable associations. The acquisition of this emblematic piece of French cinema by the famous DJ Snake testifies not only to his admiration for the film, but also to his commitment to those most in need.

Others are more surprising, such as the mythical olive green vest worn by Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain during the unforgettable recording of the "Unplugged" concert in 1993. Never washed since, it found a new home at an auction in New York, for the impressive sum of $334,000.

And sometimes, auction stories take an unexpected turn, as in the case of Lady Gaga. A dress forgotten in a hotel room, found by a chambermaid, became the center of a media saga. With the dress put up for auction, fans had the unique opportunity to own a piece of pop culture history, while Valentino (the haute couture brand) and the authorities tried to solve the mystery. No theft, no crime: just simple opportunism.
