Since its founding in 1971, Médecins Sans Frontières has worked to provide medical assistance to populations whose lives or health are threatened, without discrimination and with full independence. Present in more than 70 countries, the organization intervenes in contexts of armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and forced population displacement. Its teams, made up of healthcare professionals, logisticians, and humanitarian specialists, deliver essential care where access to healthcare is limited or nonexistent. This includes in particular the treatment of war wounded, the fight against malnutrition, epidemic response, care for mothers and children, as well as mental health support. Beyond emergencies, Médecins Sans Frontières also runs longer-term programs to ensure sustainable access to care for the most vulnerable populations.
